Redevelopment of Søarsenalet, ”Kuglegården”, Copenhagen

For property developer company Mogens de Linde, Elgaard Architecture has carried out a restoration and redevelopment strategy as well as programming for Søarsenalet (Naval Arsenal), also known as Kuglegården, which is one of the finest examples of 18th century building complexes in Danish architectural history. Since it was built by architect and master builder Philip de Lange in the 1740’s, the complex has been the headquarters of the Defense Command Denmark, and hence a central part of the Armed Forces’ facilities in Copenhagen. By the end of 2017, Kuglegården will be reconfigured for commercial purposes, and thus the strategy ensures that the buildings will be restored and future-proofed in a manner that not only preserves but also enhances their historical and architectural values.
