We are refurbishing the main building of the Kongsdal Estate
May 30, 2022
The new owners of the listed Kongsdal Estate in Mørkøv near Holbæk wish to carry out a thorough restoration and refurbishment of the main building, so that in future it can function as a contemporary summer residence for the family, while creating coherence in the listed interiors – both in terms of expression and quality. Elgaard Architecture has submitted a historical report for the main building prior to applying to the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces. Kongsdal’s main building can be dated back to the 16th century. For a period in the 17th century, Kongsdal belonged to the Crown, and King Frederik III added, among other things, some very impressive verdure tapestries to the place. For more than 150 years – from the middle of the 19th century until 2021 – Kongsdal was owned by the Estrup family. In the 1880’s the famous and notorious Prime Minister J.B.S. Estrup had Kongsdal significantly rebuilt, and the current expression of the place derives from this rebuilding.
